After another very successful Give It A Go Stunt Cheerleading event and 2 weeks of taster sessions we held our team tryouts this morning. We had over 80 people try out for a place on one of our 3 teams and we were all very impressed with the standard!
Emails will be sent out to everyone by the morning of Monday 10th October letting them know whether they’ll be training with Black Squad (All Girl Level 3), Gold Squad (Co-Ed Level 2) or our Games and Development Squad for the next year, plus they’ll be an information pack to answer any questions you may have.
Our first whole club social will be on Wednesday 12th October, starting out with team bonding sessions before moving on to a social with the Sabres American Football Club at Bar One and then ROAR at the Students’ Union.
We can’t wait to start training and get to know everyone properly at our first social of the year!
We’re starting to prepare for our 2016/17 season and you can be involved! We welcome all abilities and you don’t need to have any cheerleading experience in order to join the club.
We’ll be holding a Give It A Go session on Saturday 24th September 2016 for anyone who wants to try stunt cheerleading. We’ll be meeting at 12.15pm on the concourse in front of the Students’ Union and the session will take you through the basics of stunts, jumps and tumbles.
Stunt cheerleading is a great sport for both men and women whether you’ve done anything like it before or are just feeling inspired by the Olympics and want to try something new! Tickets for this introductory session are just £3 and are available from the Student’s Union Box Office, online or on the door.
After Give It A Go, we’ll be holding 2 weeks of taster sessions before our team trials and you’ll be able to find out more information about these closer to the time on our Facebook page.
If you have any questions you can get in touch with our committee via email (firstname.lastname@example.org), Facebook or by coming to see us at the university Sports Fair in The Octagon on Friday 23rd September.
You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to keep up to date with our latest news and events. We hope to see you in Intro Week in September or at Give It A Go!
The Sheffield Sabrecats have had an exceptionally successful year, with success both inside and outside of competitions, including winning the title of National Champions at the ICC British Championships.
Our Games and Development Squad increased in size this year and performed a very impressive routine at Sheffield Sabres’ home games throughout the year as well as performing at our annual Showcase event for the first time.
We also had members from our development and competition teams perform together at the Football and American Football events at Varsity 2016.
We’ve continued to have competition teams competing at All Girl Level 3 (Black Squad) and Co-Ed Level 2 (Gold Squad), plus Group Stunts competing at Levels 3, 4 and 6. At our first competition this year, Future Cheer Heart of England in Birmingham, Gold Squad and Group Stunt Level 6 came 1st and Black Squad and Group Stunts Level 3 and 4 came 2nd.
A couple of weeks later, we were back competing in our home city at Future Cheer Circus Spectacular, and were lucky to have a huge amount of support from the Sabres and some of our alumni. Group Stunts Level 4 and 6 came 1st, Black Squad and Group Stunt Level 3 came 3rd and Gold Squad came 4th. The score for Group Stunt Level 4 was also one of the highest scores a Sabrecats Group Stunt has ever achieved!
Our final competition at the ICC British Championships in March resulted in Gold Squad becoming National Champions and Black Squad getting 3rd place in the University division. This topped off a fantastic competition season and one of the most successful years the club has had!
Outside of cheerleading, we were busy organising and taking part in a variety of charity events. Once again we took part in the annual “Do It For You” Day held in conjunction with Sheffield Children’s Hospital. This day allows current and former childhood cancer patients the opportunity to take part in a number of different sports, including cheerleading!
We also continued our long standing relationship with our sponsored charity Breast Cancer Care this year. Our fundraising events have included bake sales, themed training sessions, a 24 hour cycle-a-thon and most impressively running the Sheffield Half Marathon and we’ve raised over £1500!
Thank you once again to our sponsors and our fantastic committee and coaches for all their hard work over the last year!
We’re currently in the process of giving our website a much needed update!
We’ll have more information on how to join us in the 2016/17 academic year in the next few days, but in the meantime you can get in touch via email at email@example.com or via Facebook. You can also check out our Instagram and Twitter!
